The 2nd day of the competition

WA v Victoria 2

The morning did not bode well.  The kids had to leave early without the parents as laundry had to be done or there would be no uniforms tomorrow. There was an argument as to whether Sam should ask for help with his laundry when he is well able to look after himself.

The 1st game was lost by Tyz and Edmund at  21- 17 21 -16. Things were looking bad.

Ping Teo and Silvi also lost at 21-14, 21 – 8.

Jazton and Titus lost 21-19, 14-21, 21- 16.

Olivia and Alex lost 21-19, 21-18.

Edward lost 21-12, 21-19.

Silvi lost 21-18, 21-15.

Titus lost 11-21, 21-13 and 21-16.

Alex lost 14-21, 10-21.

It was all losses for the 1st part of the day. Things began to look better in the later morning.

Jazton played against   and got the first set. The 2nd set went up to 25-27 with both sides see sawing with the lead. Mr Cool won eventually. You could feel the atmosphere. Boys from the other NSW teams were cheering Jaz on. This kid really wants to give his dad a heart attack.

Edmund lost 18-21, 21-14 , 15-21. It was another draining game for Edmund and he just could not finish the game.

Olivia won her 1st single today. It was one of those epic 3 setters. You could just see the determination in her face. She went for every point. She was just complaining to her dad that she was tired and did not sleep well last night before. What a trooper. 17-21, 21-19, 15-21.

Phing Teo won her game at 22 – 21.  She did her team proud beating the Victorian No, 1 seed.
12-21, 21-23.

Titus and Alexandra were down the 1st set. They come back strongly to win the 2nd set at 21 -9. However they went out of gas and finished down at 16-21.

Edmund and Silvi lost 21-17, 23-21.

Highlight of the day was my wife having an argument with the umpire. The umpire was glaring at her every time she cheered loudly. It ended up with the Referee being called over to speak to Annie. There was a general discussion regarding where she could stand to cheer Edmund in his singles game, Luckily she did not need a lawyer.

Olivia and Tyzton played brilliantly to beat Victoria 21-16, 21-19. Olivia is getting stronger despite not getting enough sleep. Maybe she needs less sleep to win.

Phing and Jaz won the 1st game 21- easily. This partnership is getting stronger and stronger. The second game was closer but they still managed to finish it off at 21-15.

Updates will continue through the day thanks to modern technology.

WA v NSW 2

It was another exciting start to the afternoon. Tyz and Edmund won the 1st set 21-18. They lost concentration and lost the 2nd set 16-21. They finally finished off the game by winning the last set. 21-12.
Highlight of the game was when Tyz dropped a shot and thought it was going to win the point, he shouted “Sold” but the shuttle came back and Edmund had to finish off the game. Tyz had to shout “sold” again.  I wonder what is the origin of this word “sold” when playing a winning point. The kids have to enlighten me.
Phing and Silvi next played. They went up 23-21 in the first set. They then lost 14-21 in the 2nd set. The last game was played to the end but Silvi and Phing lost 23-21. What a waste.
The next game was played by Titus and Jaz. Titus and Jaz won the 1st set easily at 16-21. The 2nd set they were leading at 19-13 when they lost concentration and lost 4 points in a roll. They finally finished the game at 21-17. This is Titus 1st win and I am sure he is relieved. His confidence was taking a drop but it should be sky high now for his singles game.
Olivia and Alexandra finally won their 1st doubles game. The score was 21-15 and 21-15. Alexandra is finding her stride.
Edmund won his first set of the singles game at 23-21 but lost the 2nd set at 14-21. It was a close fight to the end but he lost the last set at 22-20. It was so close.
Jaz won his 1st set at 21-19 but lost the 2nd set at 21-13.. He put me through the coals again but finally lost his last set at 21-18. I think he got upset cos I called him Mr Cool during the game. This kid is so tempremental.
Titus was not able to win his singles game either as he could not find his touch.
Tyz stood in for Edward who was injured. Tyz lost the 1st game at 21-9 as this was his first singles game. He managed to give a better fight on the 2nd set and nearly manage a 3rd set but had to be content with21-18.
In the meantime, our quiet achiever, Olivia was winning her singles game by 2 sets convincingly at 21-14 and 21-13. She really plays better without sleep.
Silvi was unable to secure a win for her singles game although she tried hard. The 1st game was 21-14. The 2nd game was 21-19. She just could not find the strength to get the last few points.
Phing was also able to win her singles game convincingly. It was 10-21 and 15-21.
Titus played doubles with Alexandra and they won the 1st game. The 2nd game was a classic. They were up by 4 points at 18-14. They lost the next 3 points and the game was at 19-20. To win the game, they needed just one point. Alexandra served into the net. Such is the nature of the game.
Luckily they went on to win 2 points for the game to the relief of Titus.
The next game was with Edmund and Silvi.  They lost 2 nil at 21-17 and 21-13.
It was down to Jaz and Phing to finish the game for WA. They easily won both sets at 21-11 and 21-12.
At this stage, the WA team had won 8 games and lost 8 games against the NSW2 team.
There was a quick count down to see what the final score was. Luckily for us, WA won overall on sets at 19-7.
What a great achievement for all.
Tomorrow will be another challenge with ACT Combined. They have a few good players.
